JAMES Morrison joined Albion in a £1.5million deal from Premier League outfit Middlesbrough in August 2007, when he put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

His price could rise by a further £700,000 depending on appearances and Boro will also be due 15 per cent of any sell-on fee.

Morrison made his Boro first-team debut at the tender age of 17 as a substitute in the FA Cup win over Notts County in January 2004.

The Darlington-born man also played a key role in Boro's FA Youth Cup triumph that year, scoring two crucial goals in the 3-0 final first leg win at Villa and terrorising their defence in the return match.

He stepped up to the first team again in September 2004, netting in Boro's 1-1 draw at Banik Ostrava in the UEFA Cup.

Morrison kept his place for the Premiership visit to Old Trafford three days later and made Stewart Downing's early goal as an injury-hit Boro side again drew 1-1.

He added to his collection of honours in May 2006 by bagging a UEFA Cup runners-up medal after being named in the starting line-up for the final in Eindhoven.

In total, Morrison made 98 appearances for the Teessiders, including 38 as a sub, netting eight goals.

Despite representing England at every level up to Under-20, Morrison pledged his international future to Scotland in the summer of 2007, qualifying through his grandparents.
