Jonno on his team-mates - part one
JONATHAN Greening said he will always 'cherish' lifting the Championship trophy for Albion.
And the Baggies skipper today gives us an insight into the men that took the Baggies to their first title in 88 years.
In the first of a three-part series Greening gives us the lowdown on team-mates Dean Kiely, Carl Hoefkens, Paul Robinson, Leon Barnett, Neil Clement, Robert Koren, Roman Bednar, Craig Beattie, Zoltan Gera and Do-heon Kim.
Log on to www.wba.co.uk tomorrow for part two of the Hawthorns captain's colourful comments on each of Tony Mowbray's troops.
But first Greening takes us from No.1 to No.12:
1 - DEAN KIELY
He's a top man and one of my good friends here. He's been brilliant all year. He only missed a couple of games and that was because he got a broken toe from accidentally kicking a coffee table! Zoltan calls him 'middle old man'. He's 37 years old and still young at heart. He's one of the jokers in the dressing room and he's great to have around the place. He's one of the nicest players you could ever wish to meet. He's kept a fair few clean-sheets and made some vital saves for us. He's a top-class pro. You only have to look at his record throughout his career to see that and he's still going strong.
2 - CARL HOEFKENS
The Hoef gets a bit of stick off the boys about his gear. He is probably one of the worst dressers at the club and most of the boys take the mickey out of him, especially James Morrison, who is always taping his clothes up to put on show. He's been another player who has been consistent all season and played nearly every game. All the boys really like him. He came from Stoke and he gets battered for still living in Stoke. He's been brilliant all season and slotted in at right-back. He deserves a lot of credit. He's good going forward and apart from his dress sense he has been a top man around the place. We just keep telling him to get his missus to take him shopping to the Bull Ring and Selfridges - but he won't listen! Me and Carl had the beard superstition near the start of the season when we kept growing them when we were winning. Once he had his hair cut short he looked like Wolverine.
3 - PAUL ROBINSON
He's my room-mate. I've roomed with him for four years now. He's a total madman. You wouldn't like a 50/50 challenge with him on the pitch. He's played most of the games. He's a top lad off the pitch and is the biggest joker out of everyone in the changing room. He's always cutting something up or putting Deep Heat down someone's pants. He's a pleasure to have around the place. To play as well as he has is great credit to him. The place wouldn't be the same without him. He twisted his ankle just before the Wolves game and it was black and blue. Any normal person would have been out for four or five weeks with it but Robbo just strapped it up, took some pain killers and carried on. That's just the way he is and maybe if he hadn't done that we might not have got the results we needed. Fair play to him and it just shows you how much he cares.
4 - LEON BARNETT
He's another top lad, who came from Luton and is quite young. He's done really well when he's played and he can only get better. He's only just turned 22 so time is on his hands. As the gaffer has said he'll be an immense player in the future. Hopefully, with the gaffer helping him out, he'll turn into an England international. He's a bit quiet in the dressing room but he's only a young boy so he'll probably grow into it. He's really well liked around the place and everyone gets on with him really well. Fingers crossed he can do a really good job for us next season in the Premier League. He sticks his head in where it hurts and never shirks a challenge. That's why the fans have taken to him. The gaffer and Veno are working on his passing and if he can make a 15 or 20 per cent improvement to that part of his game he'll be one hell of a player. The rest of his game is up there. I didn't start playing regularly until I was 22 so he has an advantage on a lot of us by starting so early. He's only going to get better with age and experience.
5 - NEIL CLEMENT
He's been here longer than me. He's had his ups and downs with his injuries and probably at one point thought he would never get over them. But he went out on loan to Hull, got a few games under his belt, which he needed, and has come back and slotted in perfectly. He's probably one of the reasons we're back in the Premier League. He's got his left-foot wand and he's been spraying the ball all over. He's been a lot more confident in himself and it helps that he doesn't feel anything in his knee anymore. He's one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet. He's part of the dressing room banter and everyone loves having him around the place. Everyone looks up to him. I certainly do and I know a lot of the other players do. He's a real gentleman. You could see by the way he was celebrating at Loftus Road how much it meant to him. That's three promotions at one club for him - need I say anymore?!
7 - ROBERT KOREN
He's got to be one of the bargains of the century! He cost nothing and I love playing alongside him. We've seemed to gel really well and it can only get better the more we play together. Everyone loves him around the place. He's one of the jokers as well. He's always laughing and trying something mischievous. That's why everyone has fallen for him and why he is a fans' favourite. People like the way he plays, with a smile on his face. He's scored some really great goals for us and has been brilliant all year. He's my personal choice as Player of the Year.
9 - ROMAN BEDNAR
Everyone wants to get their own back on him for all the pranks he's pulled! He's cut my socks up and Deep Heated my pants numerous times. He's done some things to my car and a few of the other boys'. I think half the boys want to get him back. When he first came he wasn't that fit and had missed around a year through injury. But, after getting fit and playing a few reserves games, he got his chance and never looked back. He scored some vital goals for us and always looks a threat. Another reason we've got promoted this year is because of his goals and work ethic. We'd lost a few of our strikers through injury midway through the season and he just took it as a chance to do well for himself. He got his just rewards by scoring so many goals. He's a real nice bloke to have around the place. He can sometimes be annoying - but we'll get him back!
10 - CRAIG BEATTIE
He's been unlucky with hamstring and thigh injuries this season. He's settled in well in his first year and is always playing practical jokes. Next year, if he can get himself fit, he'll be a good member of the squad. He scored what was probably one of the goals of the season at Leicester. It was the winner and gave us a valuable three points on a day when the team was really hit by injuries.
11 - ZOLTAN GERA
He's a little muppet! He's a madman and sometimes I think he's not all there. He doesn't drink or do anything bad - but he's just crazy! He's one of the biggest crowd favourites and you can see why because he gives everything. His enthusiasm is there for all to see. He's a really nice guy and another of the jokers. All the players love having him around the place because he's not just a good player, he's part of the team spirit we've built here.
12 - DO-HEON KIM
Kim is a quiet lad. He's done well and scored an important goal at QPR. The gaffer's already said the Premier League will suit him more than the Championship because of the type of player he is. I totally believe that. He does some amazing things in training but maybe the Championship was a bit too fast and furious. He has great quality Everyone's enjoyed having him around.
