Mowbray named April's top boss
TONY Mowbray is once again the toast of the Coca-Cola Championship after being named Manager of the Month for April.
Mowbray masterminded a fantastic end-of-season run of four wins and three draws from the final seven Coca-Cola Championship fixtures to secure the club's first league title for 88 years.
The Baggies remained undefeated in the Championship during April and recorded excellent away wins at Blackpool, Norwich, QPR and, most memorably, at local rivals Wolves.
A return of 15 points from a possible 21 saw them claim top spot ahead of Stoke.
Chris Kamara, chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager-of-the-Month Awards panel, said: "West Bromwich Albion had the added pressure of playing catch-up in the final weeks of the season due to their fantastic run in the FA Cup.
"But, once again, they proved their undoubted quality by remaining unbeaten during April.
"Their excellent season culminated in the Baggies deservedly clinching the Coca-Cola Championship title on the final day of the season at Loftus Road."
This was Mowbray's fourth nomination for the monthly award this term and the second time he has come out on top, having won the September prize.
"The title race went right to the death and we had to play seven league games over the last month or so, plus an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley," said Mowbray.
"But great credit to the players. They dug deep and their quality came through.
"I trusted my players and their ability to score goals and they came good in the end."
Also short-listed for the April award were Neil Warnock of Crystal Palace, Kevin Blackwell of Sheffield United and Stoke's Tony Pulis.
Colin Calderwood of Nottingham Forest won the award in League One while Paul Ince of MK Dons was given the League Two accolade.
The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Manager-of-the-Month Award was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel headed by Sky Sports pundit Kamara, former World Cup referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Richard Bevan, Chief Executive of the League Managers' Association, and James Williams, Head of Brand Experience, Coca-Cola Great Britain.
