JONATHAN Greening has paid tribute to the team spirit instilled by Tony Mowbray after lifting the Championship trophy.

The Baggies lost the likes of Diomansy Kamara, Jason Koumas, Paul McShane and Curtis Davies last pre-season following their Wembley play-off final defeat by Derby.

But Greening feels the men Mowbray brought in to replace them helped foster a special atmosphere in the Albion camp.

And summer signings Chris Brunt, James Morrison, Ishmael Miller, Roman Bednar, Leon Barnett, Carl Hoefkens and Filipe Teixeira were all instrumental in clinching automatic promotion.

"We lost a few players in the summer but all credit to the gaffer because he brought some great players in," said Greening.

"He brought in James Morrison, Chris Brunt, Filipe Teixeira and players we didn't really know of.

"Robert Koren came in last January and that has probably been one of the club's best signings.

"We've got a really good team spirit and it has shown all year.

"Since the start of the season we have had our ups and downs but we have always said we were good enough to get out of the league automatically.

"All the neutrals said we played the best football but we had to back it up by getting automatic promotion.

"We used go to a lot of away games and the matchday programmes would describe us as the best team in the league and that probably gave them a massive incentive to try and beat us.

"That's probably why we struggled with our away form at the start of the season but we got it back together and we have done really well away from home recently."
