TONY Mowbray revealed he brought his players together for a post-match huddle at Charlton as a show of unity.

And he felt the visitors deserved more than the point they earned in the 1-1 draw.

The promotion-chasing Baggies were determined to bounce back following their 4-1 defeat by lowly Leicester six days earlier.

They fell behind to Greg Halford's 30th-minute opener but levelled through Championship top scorer Kevin Phillips' 21st goal of the season three minutes before the break.

And Zoltan Gera almost made Albion's second-half domination count when he rattled the Addicks bar with a spectacular 89th-minute volley.

"I enjoyed watching my team play today," said Mowbray.

"We started well but had a spell of ten minutes in the first half when Charlton had free-kicks and ultimately scored from one.

"Generally, on the flow of play, we were the team in the ascendancy for the vast majority of the football match.

"We threatened their goal on numerous occasions in the second-half but it just didn't go for us today.

"We didn't get the three points but I was pleased with the application.

"Apart from their goal, I thought we defended pretty well.

"We did have quite a few opportunities at the end but Charlton are very competitive and put a lot of blocks in.

"I think at one point we had about four or five shots on the bounce they managed to block.

"Zoltan also hit a screamer off the bar late on.

"If we play like that most weeks, we should have no fears.

"We've got plenty of away games to come but we've gone to Charlton and dominated the match, so we should have no fears."

Albion remain fourth in the table, a point behind Watford and four adrift of top-two Stoke and Bristol City, with a game in hand.

Mowbray was delighted with his team's work ethic against the Addicks and wants everyone to pull together during the final eight Championship fixtures.

"Sometimes, the team needs to show what they're all about," added the boss, as he explained why he gathered the team together on the pitch after the Valley stalemate.

"Today, it was important to show our supporters this team is unified and together.

"Whether we win promotion or not, the bigger picture for us is to keep improving individually and collectively.

"We're trying to play a style of football so that ultimately, when we get to where we want to go, we won't get found wanting.

"The team have got to keep believing that's the right way.

"This league is very competitive.

"Lots of teams set up to stop others playing and be very abrasive and disruptive.

"It's very, very hard to win football matches.

"I haven't seen my team work that hard individually and collectively for a long time and that's great credit to them.

"They give you 100 per cent and sometimes that bit extra.

"It was very encouraging tonight.

"The players have got that common goal of wanting to get out of this league.

"There's no guarantee we're going to do that but if we give that much quality and endeavour every game we will get there, whether it's this season or next season."
