Boss: Injuries opens door for others
TONY Mowbray admits injuries to key trio Filipe Teixeira, Chris Brunt and James Morrison has left the door open for other players to force their way into his side against Leicester tomorrow (ko 3pm).
Carl Hoefkens (hamstring) also remains a doubt and the Baggies boss revealed Do-Heon Kim, who got 45 minutes under his belt in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Pele and Sherjill MacDonald will all come into the reckoning to face the Foxes.
Mowbray even admitted employing the 4-3-3 formation he finished the Palace stalemate with is something that has crossed his mind.
"Kim has to be in our thoughts for tomorrow," he said.
"We've lost three wide midfield players in Filipe, Chris Brunt and James Morrison.
"Kim did exceptionally well in the second-half the other day.
"Football is all about opportunity and there is an opportunity for one or two others as well.
"Pele comes into my thoughts and Sherjill MacDonald is now back from being on loan at Hereford.
"It's always an option to go 4-3-3.
"We ended up 4-3-3 the other night and had one of our best spells in the game in the last 20 minutes.
"But every game is a different challenge.
"We'll look how Leicester set out and pick the team we feel is best to try and get the three points."
Despite the Hawthorns treatment room being busier than Piccadilly Circus, Mowbray insists it cannot be used as an excuse against Ian Holloway's relegation-threatened side.
"We won't be the only team with injury problems and suspensions," the Albion chief added.
"Sometimes football is about the team you're playing in any given week and whether they've got suspensions and injuries.
"I look back to last season when we lost Curtis Davies and one or two others at crucial times.
"In the bigger picture it doesn't matter because it's your squad that gets judged at the end of the season.
"Whether Teixeira's magic could have created a few more goals and got us some more points, people are not interested.
"We've just got to get on with it and try and win some football matches.
"It doesn't help when you lose key players but I know we'll only be judged on our results between now and the end of the season."
The Foxes have won just three of their 19 league trips on the road this term, netting only 14 times in the process.
But they have also drawn eight times on their travels and Mowbray expects them to be stubborn opposition.
"It is imperative we get three points," said the Baggies boss.
"Leicester, as a club, have had a difficult time.
"Ian has been working away to put things right and he'll bring a very determined and passionate team to The Hawthorns tomorrow.
"It's a big, big test for us but it's a big, big test for them as well.
"We'll both be striving for the three points but for different reasons."
City will be without Stephen Clemence (thigh) and Jamie Clapham (groin) but Patrick Kisnorbo (Achilles) is back in contention after missing the last two games and James Wesolowski (hamstring) could return.
