HOEF THE CUFF: Martin's not so boot-iful
WE didn't need the floodlights on at The Hawthorns on Tuesday.
Just the brightness of Martin Albrechtsen's graffiti boots would have lit up the whole of West Bromwich!
A centre-half playing in pink, orange, green, gold and blue fluorescent footwear is unheard of.
Having said that, Martin stood out anyway against the Blades because he won every single tackle and header.
I reckon Martin has wanted to wear these boots for some time.
But whenever he's tried them on in the past, the lads have given him stick and he's put another pair on.
I think he's run out of boots now and had to wear them at Barnsley on Saturday!
I'm sure he'll end up getting mentioned on Soccer AM because they must be the worst-looking boots in the world.
I'm reliably informed they were a Christmas present off his partner Camilla, who has a friend who decorates clothing and shoes.
The boots have his and his children's names on them.
They are a nice thought - but the stick he's getting is fully deserved!
At least the club are making the right choices.
I think giving the gaffer and Veno new-and-improved contracts is a really smart move by the board.
The manager has done remarkably well and everyone says we play good football.
We've got a massive chance of going up this season and, if there is one person you want in charge, it is Tony Mowbray.
He works really well with Veno and they give the players confidence.
The gaffer and Veno's personalities are like water and fire but they work really well together.
They also share a common passion for football.
We owed the boss and the fans a performance after what I thought was our worst game of the season at Oakwell.
Tuesday's match against Sheffield United couldn't have come round quick enough.
We were really up for it and pushed them back for the first 20 minutes, creating some good chances.
We played some good football and defended well but just couldn't get that all-important breakthrough.
I'm sure that if we perform like we did on Tuesday every week, with the same work ethic and good passing, we'll be okay.
We need to play the same away from home and be prepared to work when we haven't got the ball.
Considering we were missing Roman, Robbie and Zolly through injury, I thought we did well.
It must have been tough for Ishmael to play 70 minutes as well because he'd only trained for three or four days before making his comeback from injury.
He battled on well, especially as Chris Morgan homed in on him.
He is an experienced defender who is very strong and aggressive.
It will only be good for Ish to get more time under his belt against Coventry in Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie, while the injured players will get more rest.
I'm sure we've got players in the squad to cover our injuries and it will be a good opportunity for them to show what they've got.
There is no pressure on us. We can just go there and play our game.
We have to treat City with respect because they have done well in both cups this season.
Their players will also be wanting to impress whoever takes over as their new manager.
Coventry are a hard-working side and have some players with good individual skill.
They are the only team to beat us at home in the league this term so we want to put that right.
We know what we're capable of and it should be a good game.
It will be brilliant to have 6,000 Albion fans at the Ricoh Arena. It should be some atmosphere.
Tuesday night was frustrating for the fans because we didn't get the three points.
But they kept backing us until the end because I think they were pleased with our work ethic.
Hopefully, we can repay their loyal support by booking a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
