Striker's injury frustration - BEATTIE'S BLOG
IT'S frustrating times for me at the moment.
I picked up a calf injury in training on Friday, which is why I missed the Watford and Sheffield Wednesday games.
It's a bit tight and sore and I'm working with the physio.
Hopefully it will settle okay and I reckon I've got an outside chance for Monday's televised game at Coventry.
I want to make sure I get it right so I can get back and help the team.
The boys are doing magnificently anyway.
I don't think anyone else will do what we did to Watford and beat them 3-0 on their own patch again this season.
The Hornets will have played some good, strong physical teams but I think we're different, which was shown in the way we got the victory.
I think a lot of people will have been expecting a very even game.
But we went down there and scored three goals against the team at the top of the league and kept out a strikeforce that has been on fire this season.
I think we can be delighted with the weekend's work.
The clean-sheet was vital as well.
We've conceded too many goals away from home and to keep a clean-sheet at Watford is testament to the boys' character and belief.
Big Bostjan has definitely had an impact on the defence.
He's done fantastically well and has taken his opportunity.
He's an experienced player and has played at the top level in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb and then moved to Marseille.
He's also a Slovenia international and is proving a top acquisition.
He communicates well on the pitch as well.
I've spoken about the language barrier but I think everyone can see football is his language.
The basics are the same and he's finding a way of letting people know what he thinks on the pitch.
I watched the game against the Owls from the stands last night and I thought the boys were terrific again.
They knocked it about well and we created numerous chances.
We should have won the game comfortably and created enough chances to.
But their keeper made some magnificent saves.
We had a goal ruled out for off-side, which is crazy and the decisions went from bad to worse.
At 1-0 anything can happen.
You can't legislate for injuries either.
Their goal was disappointing as well because it was a clear foul on Carl Hoefkens by Marcus Tudgay and the lads were a bit hard done to.
Incidents like that in football can bring you closer together but I think in this instance I'd rather have the extra two points.
But it's done now and we need to knuckle down for a hard trip to the Ricoh Arena after everyone else has played at the weekend.
The Sky Blues came from behind to snatch a good 2-1 victory at QPR last night and they'll be on a high.
But we'll be hoping to get three points ahead of the international break.
Obviously we've got a few injury worries ahead of the derby game and we've got our fingers crossed for both Martin Albrechtsen and Kevin Phillips that their knee injuries aren't serious.
People pick up injuries and suspensions, which is why we brought in so many players in the summer and we have a good squad.
Hopefully we're capable of coping with three or four injuries.
I don't want to miss any games and I'm chomping at the bit.
After our big game on Monday, I link up with Scotland again for what will be the biggest game of my career without a doubt, if I'm involved.
We need to beat the World Champions Italy at Hampden Park to qualify for next year's European Championships.
It's going to take a monumental effort but we've beaten France, Ukraine and Georgia at home in our qualifying group so Italy won't be relishing it.
They need to come and at least get a draw, which will maybe play into their hands a touch.
Realistically, I don't think any of the Scotland boys thought we'd be in this position when the groups were drawn.
But we've worked extremely hard to get where we are and I'm sure everyone will get behind us and we'll give it our best shot.
It's exciting because we'll be out there with players like Fabio Cannavaro and Gennaro Gattuso.
They are the top players in the world and it's great to be involved against players like that.
