FORMER Albion player Ally Robertson helped the Baggies' Community Programme launch a brand new golf society.

The ex-defender was part of the last Baggies team to reach the FA Cup semi-finals before Tony Mowbray's men ended a 26-year wait for a place in the final-four eight days ago.

Robertson was also joined by former left-back Ray Wilson.

With many years of successfully delivering sports and education activities to thousands of young people, the Community Programme continues to expand its activities and is aiming to enhance its work with adults.

The society will be supported by Albion's Former Players' Association with an ex-Baggies player set to be on hand at each event to join members in their round.

PGA and resident professional at Halesowen Golf Club, Jon Nicholas, will further enhance his work with Albion by playing at each event and passing on his expertise.

Trustee of Albion's Community Programme and President of the Former Players' Association Brendon Batson said: "This is a fantastic initiative and something our former players are looking forward to supporting.

"The Community Programme continues to develop innovative ideas to engage the fans into the football club and bringing golf and football together will appeal to many of our supporters."

As part of Albion's work in the local community, The Jon Nicholas Golf School currently delivers golf programmes to local schools.

Membership involves an initial £30 joining fee followed by a 'pay as you play' scheme.

Events will be hosted across some of the Midlands' favourite courses, which are both enjoyable as well as challenging to golfers of all abilities.

A handicap system will apply, with a maximum of 28 allowed.

As well as getting the opportunity to play with a PGA Golf Professional and former Albion players, the society days will provide a fantastic opportunity for Albion fans that have a keen interest in golf to enjoy a competitive and sociable game.
